Why isn't there a direct train to LBA?

Leeds Bradford Airport was built in 1931 as a municipal aerodrome, before the motorway network. It sits between Leeds and Bradford but is not connected to either city's rail network. A rail link has been proposed and debated for decades — most recently as part of the Leeds Mass Transit scheme — but as of 2026, no construction has begun.

Until a rail link is built, the fastest connection from Harrogate to LBA remains a direct taxi (~30 minutes) or the train + bus route via Leeds (90+ minutes with a change).
