Harrogate Taxi
Terms of Service
Last updated 27 October 2026
The short version
- Airport fares are fixed. Traffic or a different route does not change them.
- Local fares are estimates based on the council tariff and the route actually taken.
- 10 minutes of free waiting, then the council tariff rate.
- Cancelling is free.
- Pay your driver on the day, by cash or card.
1. Who we are
Harrogate Taxi is a hackney carriage service licensed by North Yorkshire Council. The driver is DBS checked and the vehicle displays a council-issued plate. You can reach us on +44 7835 155044 or at harrogatetaxi@gmail.com. These terms apply to every booking made through this website, by phone or by email.
2. Booking and confirmation
A booking request is not confirmed until we confirm it by email. You will receive a "booking received" email straight away and a "booking confirmed" email once the driver has accepted the job. Please check the details in the confirmation and tell us straight away if anything is wrong.
Please give us accurate pickup and drop-off addresses, your contact details and, for airport journeys, your flight number. If we cannot reach you or the details are wrong, we may not be able to complete the journey.
3. Fares
Airport transfers are quoted as a fixed fare. A fixed fare does not go up because of traffic, roadworks or the driver taking a different route.
The fixed fare only changes if you ask for something different from what you booked, for example:
- a different pickup or drop-off address, or extra stops
- extra passengers or an additional vehicle
- waiting time beyond the free allowance in section 4
- charges set by a third party and passed on at cost, such as airport drop-off or car park fees
We will tell you about any change before it is applied wherever we can.
Local journeys are quoted as an estimate. The final fare is based on the North Yorkshire Council maximum hackney carriage tariff and the route actually taken, so heavy traffic, a road closure or a diversion can make it higher or lower than the estimate. We never charge more than the council tariff allows.
Higher tariff rates apply at night (10pm to 7am), on public holidays, and over Christmas and New Year. A positioning surcharge may apply when the pickup is outside Harrogate. The price you are shown when you book already includes whichever of these applies.
There are no booking fees and no luggage surcharges.
4. Waiting time
You get 10 minutes of free waiting at the pickup point. After that, waiting time is charged at the council tariff rate, which is currently about 35p a minute at the standard rate, 51p a minute at the night and public holiday rate, and 68p a minute at the Christmas and New Year rate.
For airport arrivals we monitor your flight, so if it lands late we will adjust the pickup. If you need longer than 10 minutes to reach us after landing, tell us when you are on your way and we will tell you what to expect.
5. Payment
You pay your driver on the day, by cash or card. We do not take payment online when you book. The fare due is the confirmed fare plus any changes agreed under sections 3 and 4.
6. Cancellations and changes
Cancelling is free. There is no cancellation fee. Please let us know as early as you can, by phone or email, so the driver can free up the slot for someone else.
If you are not at the pickup point and we cannot reach you after the free waiting time has passed, we may treat the booking as cancelled. We will not charge a fee for this.
You can change the time or addresses of a booking by contacting us. A change is not confirmed until we confirm it, and a changed journey may change the fare.
We may need to cancel or rearrange a booking, for example because of vehicle breakdown, illness or severe weather. If we do, we will tell you as soon as possible and do our best to help you find another way to travel.
7. Passengers, luggage and child seats
A standard taxi carries up to 4 passengers. For larger groups we will need to send more than one vehicle, so tell us the number of passengers and bags when you book. If more people or luggage turn up than you booked for, we may not be able to carry all of them.
We carry child seats at no extra charge. Tell us your child's age and weight when you book so we bring the right one. Assistance dogs are always carried.
Please wear your seat belt, do not smoke or vape in the vehicle, and take care of the vehicle. We may charge a reasonable cleaning fee if the vehicle is soiled or damaged.
8. Our right to refuse
We can refuse or end a journey if a passenger is abusive, is threatening, is unreasonably drunk or if carrying them would be unsafe or unlawful. If a journey has to end early, the fare for the distance already travelled is payable.
9. Delays and our responsibility
We aim to be on time every time, but traffic, weather and incidents can cause delays. For flights, please allow a sensible buffer and book your pickup with plenty of time to spare. We are not responsible for a missed flight or connection caused by events outside our control.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
If you leave something in the vehicle, contact us and we will do our best to return it. We may ask you to arrange collection.
10. Courier deliveries
For courier bookings, you must not ask us to carry illegal, dangerous or prohibited items. Please describe the item accurately when you book. Tell us before booking if an item is high value or fragile so we can agree how to carry it and confirm the delivery details with you.
11. Your information
We collect your name, phone number, email address and journey details to take and carry out your booking, send you confirmation emails and contact you about the journey. We do not sell your information. We keep it only as long as we need to for the booking and our records, and you can ask us at any time to see it, correct it or delete it by emailing harrogatetaxi@gmail.com. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
12. Complaints
If something went wrong, please tell us first by phone or email and we will do our best to put it right. If you are still unhappy, you can contact North Yorkshire Council's licensing team, as the authority that licenses our vehicle and driver.
13. Changes to these terms and governing law
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one on this page when you book. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
